shntunes.org was created in order to redistribute all the great shn files I have started to collect.
Because I knew I would run an FTP server I felt a web site was a natural extension of this.
Shntunes.org will provide a means for you to gain a server login, a method to browse the server without logging in,
and you can download all txt files that you may find.
Professionally I do many things, among them I do web development. I will also be using shntunes.org as
a place to create new web software and services. The first project I have started is the BBS,
more on that later. When I have completed the BBS I will be creating a database of all the music on
shntunes.org. This database will allow you to search for shows I have in a much more efficient manner
then drilling through the FTP site.
You may be wondering why the world needs another BBS. Well, to be honest with you it doesn't.
When I was a kid I used to own a commodore 64 and a 1200bps modem! In those days this was all you
needed for a server. I used to run a BBS back then on that machine and it was very successful. The
main reason I want to create a BBS for shntunes.org is to see if what happened then will happen now.
If the message base gets going I will start hosting some telnet games such as
TradeWars 2002. Of course if enough of you are
interested I will set up a server sooner.
Anyway that's about it for the current plan. The machine I run the server on has plenty of room for
music and with drives as cheap as they are I hope to see this thing stuffed to the gills with 60-80GB
drives!
